The Contra Band

The Contra Band (Formerly - Bootleg Rhythm Band) are a 6 piece party covers band formed with musicians from across counties in the Midlands including Shropshire, West Midlands, Leicestershire and Worcestershire with the ambition of providing music that 'girls can dance to and blokes can drink beer to'. Formed around experienced members of other party / function bands at the start of 2004, the band has an extensive repertoire and a broad range of musical styles ranging from Soul and Pop though to Classic Rock from the last 5 decades. Artists covered range from Alice Cooper to Whitesnake and Simply Red through to Maroon 5. The Bootleg Rhythm Band also have an emerging reputation for covering popular 'one hit wonders' by, for example, The Knack, Wild Cherry & Golden Earring. Energetic and committed to delivering the best performance, as close as possible to the original recording, The Contra Band only change the arrangement if they think the original artist didn't do it properly (or they can't work out how the original was played....!!). The band are equally comfortable playing venues requiring heavy rock or more pop-oriented dance music or a mixture of both and can scale the sound system accordingly.



"The Contra Band play songs spanning the reign of Her Majesty, including the period when people stopped playing vinyl and started wearing it. Even if it was recorded before Light Emitting Diodes were invented or when iPods were something used for Alien invasions then we have the musicians from across the West Midlands to do it – two lead guitarists, sax, keys, bass, drums and the incomparable Mandy on vocals; Telford’s very own Tina and habitual wearer of hot pants.
